Masters of the Abyssal Plain

Anglerfish are a diverse group, encompassing over 200 species, each adapted to its specific niche in the abyssal zone – the dark, cold region of the ocean typically below 1,000 meters. This extreme environment dictates their unusual features. The most striking characteristic is, of course, their bioluminescent lure, a modified dorsal fin spine tipped with bacteria that produce light.
